Avilés Lighthouse, also known as San Juan Lighthouse, stands on the eastern shore of the entry to Avilés Estuary at the spot known as Punta del Castillo.
It entered into service in 1863 and was electrified in 1926.
It rises some 40 m above sea level and 15 m above ground level. It has a range of 20 nautical miles.
“When man built ships to sail the seas, he built lighthouses to guide him and lead him back to port.”
